MARKETING OUTREACH

You know exactly which advertisers stopped running. Now go ask them why.

AccountScout emails your advertisers using the data you already have — who ran, who lapsed, who owes you, who buys every holiday section — and keeps the campaign history on the account.

A diagram: three small labelled cards - order, invoice, and renewal due - each joined by a thin red line that converges on a single point on the card for the advertiser Lakeside Auto, with one line running out from the other side of that card to a paper-plane send icon.

THE PROBLEM

Every publisher has a list they cannot reach.

The florist who ran every week until March. The forty accounts who bought the fall football section last year. The advertisers sitting thirty days past due who would pay if someone reminded them politely.

The information is in the billing system. The email tool is somewhere else entirely. Bridging the two means exporting a spreadsheet, cleaning it, uploading it to a marketing platform, and hoping nobody notices that the list went stale the moment it was exported. Most publishers do it once, find it painful, and never do it again.

So the outreach that would actually work — specific, timely, based on what the advertiser really did — gets replaced by the outreach that is easy: nothing, or a blast to everyone.

THE LIST IS ALREADY THERE

Every segment worth sending is a question about this.

Who ran last year and not this quarter. Who buys the fall football section. Who is thirty days behind. Those are not lists to build and maintain — they are questions about records the publication already keeps.

  • The segment queries live records, so it cannot go stale between building and sending
  • Print, classified, and digital history on the account the campaign goes out from
  • Sends and responses record back on that account, where the rep will see them
The AccountScout Sales Dashboard: a year view pacing at 87% of goal, with booked revenue charted month by month against goal and target-to-date lines, beside a rail breaking out print, classified, and digital revenue, open price quotes, expiring orders, dormant advertisers, and activity, email, and deal counts.

WHAT CHANGES

The list builds itself from what already happened.

  • Build a list from real billing and insertion data instead of an exported snapshot
  • Reach lapsed advertisers, section buyers, or past-due accounts as a group
  • Send the section and special-edition invitations that used to be phone calls
  • Campaign sends and responses live on the advertiser's account, visible to the rep
  • No second platform to learn or reconcile against your billing data

HOW IT WORKS

From a question about your own data to a booked follow-up.

The list is a query against live records, so it is accurate at the moment you send rather than at the moment you exported.

  1. 1

Define the group from your own data

Advertisers who ran in the last year but not this quarter. Everyone in a category. Every account with a balance over thirty days. Because the list queries live records, it cannot go stale between building it and sending it.

  2. 2

    Write it once

Compose the message and pull in account-specific details, so a section invitation reads like it was written for that advertiser rather than blasted at them.

  3. 3

    Send it from the publication

Email goes out under your name and your domain, not a marketing vendor's. Advertisers recognise who is writing to them.

  4. 4

    Keep the history

What was sent, to whom, and when, recorded on the account. When the rep follows up next week, they can see the email the advertiser already got.

  5. 5

Hand the warm ones to sales

Responses become follow-up tasks in SalesScout rather than a forgotten inbox thread, so interest turns into a call while it is still warm.

PROOF

Fake Brains has been building software for newspaper and media publishing since 1991, for hundreds of publications managing millions of ads. Email marketing runs on the same advertiser record as everything else — which is the whole reason the lists stay accurate.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions publishers ask about advertiser outreach.

Not for advertiser outreach. AccountScout is built to email the advertisers already in your system using their real history. Publishers who also run large reader or subscriber newsletters sometimes keep a separate consumer email tool, and that is fine — the two do different jobs.
